How to create your bespoke engagement ring

Designing a bespoke ring with Primo is a relaxed, collaborative process. You'll work with the same specialist from first sketch to final polish — here's how your idea becomes a finished ring.

  2. Hand sketch of a bespoke engagement ring design

    Step 2: Refine your design

    Together we'll shape the setting, metal and profile — trying on sample rings and sketching options until it feels right. Start from one of our existing designs or from a blank page.

  3. Loose certified diamond held in tweezers

    Step 3: Choose your diamond

    As an independent specialist, we source from a wide network of suppliers. Compare lab-grown and natural diamonds side by side, with honest advice on cut, colour and clarity and certification from GIA or IGI.

    Prefer a coloured gemstone? Ask about our sapphire and gemstone options.

  4. Step 4: Review your CAD design

    We'll create detailed CAD renders of your ring so you can see every angle before anything is made. Request changes freely — your ring only goes into production once you're completely happy.

  5. Step 5: We handcraft your ring

    Skilled Hatton Garden craftspeople cast, set and polish your ring, and it's hallmarked by the London Assay Office. Collect it from our studio or have it delivered, fully insured. Typical timescale: 2–4 weeks from design approval.

Custom or bespoke: what's the difference?

A custom ring starts from one of our existing designs, personalised with your choice of diamond, metal and details. A bespoke ring is designed from scratch around your ideas. At Primo, both are made to order for you — so you can go as far as you like.

  • Personalise one of our designs: start with a setting from our engagement ring collection and change the band, head, metal or stone.
  • Create something entirely new: bring a sketch, a photo or a family stone, and we'll design a ring that exists nowhere else.

How long does a bespoke engagement ring take?

Most bespoke rings take around 2–4 weeks from approving your CAD design, depending on complexity. Let us know your proposal date and we will plan around it.

How much does a bespoke engagement ring cost?

Bespoke engagement rings start from £1,500. The final price depends on your diamond, metal and design, and you'll see transparent pricing at every stage before anything is made.

Should I choose a lab-grown or natural diamond?

Both are real diamonds with identical sparkle and hardness. Lab-grown diamonds let you choose a larger or higher-grade stone for your budget, while natural diamonds offer rarity and heirloom appeal. We'll compare them side by side in your consultation.

Can I design my ring online or by video call?

Yes. Start online with our ring builder, or book a video consultation and we'll guide you through your setting, metal, diamond, size and finishing details.

What happens if I don't know my partner's ring size?

That's very common, especially for a surprise proposal. We'll share tips to help you estimate it, and you also receive one complimentary resize within the first twelve months.
