Each shape handles light differently. Browse certified diamonds by cut, or ask a gemmologist which shape flatters your setting and hand.

Lab-grown or natural

Two beautiful choices, one honest answer

Lab-grown and natural diamonds are physically, chemically and optically the same. What differs is origin, rarity and price. We will show you both side by side and let you decide.

More diamond for your budget

Lab-grown diamonds

Created above ground with the same crystal structure as a mined diamond. A lab-grown stone lets you choose a larger carat or a higher grade for the same budget.

  • Larger carat for the same budget
  • IGI or GIA certified
  • Fully traceable, conflict-free origin

Rare and timeless

Natural diamonds

Formed deep within the earth over billions of years, every natural diamond is finite and one of a kind, a classic choice for an heirloom ring.

  • Billions of years in the making
  • GIA certified
  • Sourced in line with the Kimberley Process

Cut

Cut grades how well a diamond’s facets return light to your eye. It does more for sparkle than any other C, which is why we never compromise on it.

  1. Poor
  2. Fair
  3. Good
  4. Very Good
  5. Excellent

Gemmologist tip: Prioritise Excellent cut for round diamonds. A well-cut stone can look larger and brighter than a heavier, poorly cut one.

Certified diamonds

GIA & IGI certified, then checked by our own eyes

Every Primo diamond comes with an independent grading report from GIA or IGI, the two most trusted laboratories in the world. Before we recommend a stone, our gemmologists inspect it themselves for light performance and eye-cleanliness, because two diamonds with the same certificate can look very different.

  • GIA: the benchmark for natural diamond grading
  • IGI: the leading laboratory for lab-grown diamonds
  • Laser-inscribed report number on the girdle
  • Original certificate supplied with your ring

Diamond FAQs

Your diamond questions, answered

Straight answers from our Hatton Garden gemmologists. Can’t see your question? We are happy to help.

Are your diamonds certified?

Yes. Every diamond we offer comes with an independent grading report from GIA or IGI. The report confirms the stone’s cut, colour, clarity and carat, and its number is usually laser-inscribed on the diamond’s girdle so you can verify it.

What is the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds?

Lab-grown and natural diamonds share the same chemical composition, hardness and sparkle. Natural diamonds formed in the earth over billions of years; lab-grown diamonds are created in weeks under controlled conditions. The main practical difference is price: a lab-grown diamond costs considerably less than a natural diamond of the same grade.

Can you tell a lab-grown diamond from a natural one?

Not with the naked eye, or even a standard jeweller’s loupe. Specialist laboratory equipment is needed to tell them apart, which is why every diamond’s certificate states clearly whether it is lab-grown or natural.

Which of the 4Cs matters most?

Cut has the biggest impact on how a diamond looks, because it controls sparkle and brightness. We recommend an Excellent or Very Good cut, then balancing colour, clarity and carat to suit your budget and setting.

What colour and clarity should I choose?

For most engagement rings, F to H colour and VS2 to SI1 clarity look beautifully white and eye-clean while giving excellent value. Step cuts such as emerald and Asscher show more of the stone’s interior, so we usually suggest VS1 or above for those shapes.

Is it safe to buy a diamond online?

Yes. Each diamond is certified, and you can view it in high-definition 360° video before you decide. If you would like to see it in person, book an appointment at our Hatton Garden showroom or a virtual consultation with one of our gemmologists.

Are your diamonds ethically sourced?

Our natural diamonds are sourced in line with the Kimberley Process and the System of Warranties, and our lab-grown diamonds come from suppliers who can trace their origin. We are happy to talk you through the provenance of any stone.

Can I see a diamond before I buy it?

Of course. Book a private appointment at our showroom in Hatton Garden and we will bring in the diamonds you have shortlisted so you can compare them side by side under different lighting.

Can I set a diamond into a ring of my choice?

Yes. Choose any certified diamond and pair it with one of our settings, or work with our designers on a bespoke ring. Every ring is handcrafted to order in our Hatton Garden workshop.

How long does it take to make my ring?

Most engagement rings are ready within 2–4 weeks of design approval, depending on the setting and diamond. We will give you a clear timeline during your consultation.

Diamonds in Hatton Garden

Buying a certified diamond in London

Primo Diamonds is an independent Hatton Garden jeweller offering GIA and IGI certified lab-grown and natural diamonds online and in our London showroom.

Choosing a diamond is easier with someone you trust beside you. Our gemmologists help you compare loose diamonds across every major shape, including round brilliant, oval, emerald, pear and cushion, and explain how cut, colour, clarity and carat change both appearance and price.

Lab-grown diamonds in London

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds with the same physical and optical properties as natural stones. They are an excellent way to choose a larger or higher-grade diamond for your engagement ring, and each one comes with an independent IGI or GIA report.

Natural diamonds with GIA certificates

For a rare, heirloom-quality stone, our natural diamonds are GIA graded and responsibly sourced. We hand-select each one for brilliance and eye-cleanliness, not just its grades on paper.
